Our Holy Faith

Give your students a firm foundation in the faith with the acclaimed Our Holy Faith series—an eight-volume set of religion textbooks designed for grades 1–8. Our Holy Faith has long been a great orthodox resource for families looking to impart the truths of the Catholic faith to their children. Now, these beautifully re-typeset TAN Books editions have been carefully revised to include modernized language, updated references to current Church practices, and enriched with additional content—offering deeper explanations of core teachings along with inspiring quotes from Scripture, the saints, and the Catechism.

Yet catechesis is more than knowledge; we also want our children to be holy. The Our Holy Faith series aims to engage your children spiritually as well as intellectually with various activities provided in the “For Me to Do” sections of each lesson. These new TAN editions also include traditional prayers from the saints and other faithful sources that are pertinent to the topic under discussion for your children to exercise their faith.

To reinforce learning and retention, textbooks include chapter tests and complete answer keys in the back of the book for volumes 3-8. To further enrich classroom instruction, a supplemental Pastoral video series with beautiful sacred imagery and clear, engaging recaps are accessible for each chapter. These short videos not only reinforce key concepts but also provide a visually inspiring way to draw students into the mysteries of the faith, making lessons more memorable and spiritually impactful.

Our Holy Faith – Book Descriptions

Book 1: Good Shepard
Introduces students to the fundamental truths of the Faith in an engaging picture book format, with all new illustrations. Students will learn about the Church, God the Father, the Lord’s Prayer, the life of Christ, the Holy Spirit, and Mary. This textbook includes basic prayers that every child can come to know and love, and simplified catechism lessons that will prepare children for the later books.

Book 2: Lamb of God
Follows the same engaging format as the first book in the series, thoughtfully preparing children for their First Communion. With all-new, vibrant illustrations, it introduces students to key lessons on creation, obedience, the Ten Commandments, the laws of the Church, and the sacraments of initiation. Each chapter provides simplified catechism instruction carefully designed to support First Communion preparation in an accessible and memorable way.

Book 3: Prince of Peace
Goes deeper than the first two volumes, guiding students through the first half of Baltimore Catechism One. Here they begin their first in-depth study of the faith, exploring the nature of God and the Trinity, the reality of sin and the Fall of Man, the saving work of Jesus Christ, the mission of the Holy Spirit and the Catholic Church, and the Ten Commandments.

Book 4: Bread of Life
Shows students how the Church has ordered the entire year to help us live the truths of our Holy Faith—re-living the life of Christ with our Blessed Redeemer through the seasons and feasts of the liturgical year, in both the ordinary and extraordinary forms.

Book 5: Light of the World
Covers the material found in the second half of Baltimore Catechism One. It serves as an introduction to the tenets of the Apostles’ Creed, the Ten Commandments, the laws of the Church, the seven sacraments, sacramentals, and prayer.

Book 6: King of Kings
As students begin middle school, Book 6: King of Kings begins a deeper dive into the foundations of the faith first introduced to students in Book 3: Prince of Peace. This book covers the material found in the first half of Baltimore Catechism Two. Students will further explore such topics as the nature of God and the Trinity, the Fall of man, the types of sin, the redeeming work of our Savior, Jesus Christ, the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit, and the attributes of the Catholic Church.

Book 7: Messiah
Book 7: Messiah is a beginning course in Bible history. Starting with the Old Testament as the record of God’s dealings with His people before the coming of our Redeemer, it highlights those portions of the Old Testament which prefigure and foreshadow the nature and work of Jesus. Students will then study the four Gospels and the Acts of the Apostles. In these divinely inspired works we learn about the God-made-man, Jesus Christ, and His work of Redemption. Finally, it will show us how Christ remains with His Church till the end of time and how the Holy Spirit has been its faithful guardian and protector.

Book 8: Alpha and Omega
Book 8: Alpha and Omega picks up where book 7 left off and covers the material found in the second half of Baltimore Catechism Two. Students will study the precepts of the Church, the commandments of God (especially those that pertain to our neighbor), vocations, and the means of grace—that is, the sacraments, sacramentals, indulgences, and prayer.
